Dominique R. Chatters is a dedicated public servant, educator, and advocate for quality education. With a distinguished career in both the military and education, she has made significant contributions to her community. Currently serving on the Chesterfield County School Board as the representative for the Dale District, Chatters continues to champion policies that promote educational excellence and equity.
Chatters' background is marked by her commitment to service. As a retired U.S. Army major, she completed two combat tours, demonstrating her leadership and resilience. Her military experience provided her with a strong foundation in discipline, strategy, and teamwork—qualities that she has seamlessly transferred into her role in education. Following her military service, Chatters pursued a career in academia, where she has excelled as an educator and course director at the Department of Defense's Army Sustainment University. Her excellence in teaching earned her the prestigious title of 2022 Instructor of the Year, a testament to her dedication and effectiveness as an educator.
Education has been a central theme in Chatters' life. She holds a bachelor's degree from Morgan State University and a master's degree from Southern New Hampshire University. Her academic achievements and professional experiences have fueled her passion for ensuring that all students receive high-quality education. As a school board member, she advocates for policies that address disparities in education, improve school resources, and support both students and educators.
Beyond her professional career, Chatters is an active community leader. She has played a crucial role in Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) at several schools, including Hopkins Elementary, Hening Elementary, and Manchester Middle School. Additionally, she serves on the Chesterfield Chapter of the NAACP Education Committee and the National Council of Negroe Women furthering her efforts to promote educational equity and social justice.
Family is another important aspect of Chatters' life. She and her husband, Julius, have four children who attend Chesterfield County Public Schools. Her role as a mother provides her with a personal perspective on the challenges and opportunities within the education system, making her advocacy even more impactful.
